Accumulated Length Bender Chart Explanation

This page discusses the Accumulated Length Bender Chart in TubeCalc.

Accumulated Length Bender Data chart

Our here is to explain how to read the accumulated lengths in this bender chart. Reading the angles and bend radii is identical to reading a regular Bender Data chart, so these items are not discussed in detail in this page.

First, here is an image of the tube shape that corresponds to the Accumulated Length Bender chart shown below:

Note the following about this tube shape:

The shape is kept simple in order to demonstrate the reading of the chart.

Now, here is the chart of that represents the tube shape displayed above. The explanation of reading the length data is shown below the image.

What Are The Lengths In The Chart?

First, it is important to understand that the following columns are LENGTHS along the tube:

How To Read The Lengths In The Chart

The chart is read from left to right like this:

---Step 1---------------------------------------

Add LENGTH 1 from the end to get

an accumulated distance of 7" inches

  along the tube.

--> 7" is where the first bend starts

---Step 2---------------------------------------

Add ARC LENGTH 1 and previous ACCUMULATED

to get an accumulated distance of 14.854"

  along the tube.

--> 14.584" is where the first bend ends

(Now, Move down to the next row in the chart.)

---Step 3---------------------------------------

Add LENGTH 2 and previous ACCUMULATED

to get an accumulated distance of 19.362"

  along the tube.

--> 19.362" is where the second bend starts

---Step 4---------------------------------------

Add ARC LENGTH 2 and previous ACCUMULATED

to get an accumulated distance of 29.659"

  along the tube.

--> 29.659" is where the second bend ends

This method of reading continues until you arrive at row 3, which displays the the total length in the accumulated columns. (The total length for this tube is 38.018")

Accumulated Lengths From Either End

Notice that there are two sub-charts in this chart. The first chart (1 through 3) starts at point 1 of the tube.

The second chart (3 through 1) starts at point 3 of the tube and accumlates the lengths in the opposite order. We show both directions since the accumulated lengths are usually different when started from the opposite ends of the same tube.

Compare the accumulated lengths in both charts. The only length that should always be the same in either chart is the final accumlated length which is also referred to as the "total length".
