"How much springback does this material have in my CNC bender at 95 degrees of bend?"

If your tube fabrication process is like most in the industry, you have to deal with and account for natural material springback that occurs after bending.

The Overbend Calculator is a Windows program designed to help you overcome springback by providing overbend data over a wide range of bend angles.

THE FORMULA

Overbend Calculator uses a formula that takes into account a FIXED amount of springback for any degree of bend. The fixed portion of the formula, for example, allows Overbend Calculator to add the SAME amount of overbend angle to every bend, regardless of its angle.

Also, the Overbend Calculator formula takes into account a PROPORTIONAL amount of springback at any degree of bend. The proportional portion of the formula, for example, allows Overbend to add INCREASING amounts of overbend angle to bend angles as they also increase in degree of bend.

You may ask, "how am I supposed to figure the values for these two variables in the overbend formula?"

The answer: You don't have to! Overbend Calculator derives the variables for you automatically from two simple test bends using your CNC bender.

THE TEST

Let Overbend Calculator do the work of deriving the overbend formula for you by performing this simple test:

    • Using test pieces of the tubing to be used in the job, setup the CNC bender with the appropriate tooling with two bend angles that are different.
    • Enter the two setup bends in the Bender Setup menu.
    • Form the two bends in the bender (not correcting for material springback).
    • Change to the second Overbend page, where you will enter the actual tube angles after spring-back. Enter the measured values.
    • Change to the third page, and press the Calculate button. The variables that control the overbend formula are calculated automatically.
    • Change to the fourth page to view the Overbend data.

THE DATA

If you performed the 20/120 test and pressed the Calculate button, then your data is ready for viewing and/or printing.

The data is viewed in the View Overbend page like this:

It is placed in a list box displaying a range from 1 to 359 degrees. The increment of degrees displayed can be set to 1, 5, 10, 15, or 20 degrees.

Last, the list of overbend values is printed and delivered to your bender operator for quick CNC bender setup at any angle.

Since material springback will vary with different setups, Overbend Calculator allows you to save a session's data to a file for reuse later should you use the same setup again.
