TubeCAD Compatibility with General CAD
This page discusses TubeCAD compatibility with general CAD programs.
TubeCAD is also compatible with other programs not listed here, but
these have been tested and are found to work well with TubeCAD.
Most customers use TubeCAD as a front-end to other general CAD programs.
TubeCAD generates the original layout, then the customer modifies the layout from
within the general CAD package (like AutoCAD or CADKEY).
TubeCAD transfers data to other programs using the industry standard DXF file.
The DXF file can be either 2D or 3D. Also, TubeCAD can build CADL files, the
CADKEY standard.
AutoCAD LT
OLDER VERSIONS of ACAD LT: TubeCAD 2D and 3D DXF
files load into AutoCAD LT.
**NOTE**: NEW VERSIONS of ACAD LT: TubeCAD 2D files only.
Autodesk removed the 3D capability in newer AutoCAD LT software packages.
Colors are preserved in the entities.
Layers are created for each distinct entity group.
During setup, the TubeCAD font file (TUBECAD.SHX) should be copied over
to the AutoCAD LT fonts directory.
AutoCAD Release 13
TubeCAD 2D and 3D DXF files load into AutoCAD Release 13.
Colors are preserved in the entities.
Layers are created for each distinct entity group.

AutoCAD Release 14
TubeCAD 2D and 3D DXF files load into AutoCAD Release 14.

CADKEY 97
TubeCAD 2D and 3D DXF files load into CADKEY 97.
Also, CADL files load into CADKEY 97.
Colors are preserved in the entities.
Level numbers are created for each distinct entity group.
FastCAD
TubeCAD 2D and 3D DXF files load into FastCAD.
Colors are preserved in the entities.
Layers are created for each distinct entity group.
TurboCAD Version 4
TubeCAD 2D DXF files load into TurboCAD. (Tested 2D program)
Layers are created for each distinct entity group.
Ashlar - Vellum 3D Version 3
Vellum 3D version 3 converts 3D TubeCAD DXF files to VLM files for loading.
DXF files are converted in batch (i.e., entire directories of DXF
files are converted at the same time).
Ashlar - Vellum 3D Version 4
Vellum 3D version 4 converts 3D TubeCAD DXF files to VLM files for loading.
