The top of the menu shows the six different operator controls for this menu (one edit box and 5 buttons). Everything below those controls is designed for visual feed back during the conversion process.
The Translation Status line is the first line designed to report information about the translation process. All screen information below that line report the translation status in more detail.
Feedback during the process is important, because the FIF Translator allows you to select hundreds, or even thousands of files to translate in batch.
You can enter (or choose) a filename for your new FIF file in
the edit box at the top of the menu.
The browse button
at the end of the
edit box allows you to browse for a new location (or an existing FIF file to overwrite) during translation.
You can also enter a filename in the edit box.
Since FIF Translator is 32-bit Windows software, it allows you to use long filenames. If you choose to use a name longer than 8 characters, the 8.3 format of the filename is still the name that the EL controls will use since they are DOS-based. When Windows truncates filenames, it leaves the filename extension alone, but adjusts the filename before the filename extension. In this case, you can expect to find a shortened name when viewing the filename from within a DOS environment.
Since FIF files can contain multiple parts called BLOCKS, it is only necessary to enter a single FIF name before processing the translation. All the non-FIF files selected outside this menu for translation will be included within the single FIF file during translation.
If you leave the filename box empty, the FIF Translator will assume that you only want to perform a test translation. No FIF file will be created during translation.
Use these buttons to preset the EL values of each of the three categories of data.
See the ELData Menu for detailed information about all three of these menus.
